Acculturation & Worldviews

As we move from one culture to another, we encounter different ways of thinking and understanding the world. Many of these differences stem from one’s world view and values. As we seek to live and minister in a new culture we must learn to acculturate or to adapt and take on aspects of the new culture. We will explore how to understand the foundation of a new culture, ways of learning a new culture and appropriately adjusting to the new culture, as well as dealing with the stresses of entering a new culture.

Ryan Hannah

Ryan’s heart is that all people will have the opportunity to hear the gospel. It is this passion that has seen Ryan dedicate his life to mission, with almost three decades of experience serving in Portugal, Mozambique, Malawi, and now Thailand, being the Director at SIM Thailand.
Ryan holds degrees from Moody Bible Institute and Biola University. His giftings are in leadership, governance, teaching and pioneering new ministries.
Ryan likes good coffee and enjoys tasting the caffeinated offerings of the various countries to which he travels (fun fact: he also collects a Starbucks mug from each place visited). Ryan enjoys cross-cultural observation, which is essentially just an excuse for him to watch Thai TV dramas! And he could fill a whole room with the number of board games he owns and plays.
Ryan and his wife Heidi have three grown children who grew up in Africa and Thailand but now live in the US.
